Will Your VBS Teach the Gospel?

For those of us whose ministry centers around children, winter is the season of VBS preparation. It is a momentous task to finalize your VBS curriculum, recruit volunteers, and plan activities that wow. As you do those things, or if possible before you do those things, consider the most critical component. Why are you holding VBS?

Hopefully, the answer is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ in clear, compelling ways both to your churched and non-churched learners. If your curriculum falls short of this, augment it now. Do the work to make the message of God’s redemption from sin clear. Train your teachers to enrich each day’s message with the truth of why Jesus died and what his resurrection means for us. In your large group programming, you can reinforce God’s forgiveness of our sins through Jesus’ death. This is a terrific article by Mary Van Weelden, published by The Gospel Coalition in August 2023 and it’s a perfect piece to read ahead of time.
