A Review of Through the Eyes of John
Reviewing this book provided me an opportunity to help parents critically evaluate a book against the truths of Scripture. Read what I learned along the way.
A Review of What Every Child Should Know about Prayer by Nancy Guthrie
Another great book for bedtime or anytime reading. The stories are short, succinct, and very worthwhile.
A Review of The Gospel Story Hymnal
When is the last time you held a Children’s Hymnal in your hands? This is a gem of a songbook and discipleship tool. It’s now my song source for my curriculum, The Children’s Sanctuary.
A Review of Praying with My Fingers: An Easy Way to Talk with God
This little board book gives your young one a simple way to talk to God simply by using their fingers. The first four fingers are for others, the last is for themselves. It’s a wonderful and very sweet resource.
A Review of God Made Me Unique. By Joni and Friends
This is a tremendous gift written by Joni and Friends, the organization founded by Joni Eaarkson Tada after she became a quadrapeligic at 17.
The book cleverly helps us see those with special needs as uniquely created by God. The book explains some of the resources that those with disabilities use and weaves in the truth that as members of the Body of Christ, we all need one another.
A Review of “We Wonder” Podcasts
We Wonder is a podcast that tells God’s stories slowly and provides room for listeners to reflect on the God’s purposes. Take a listen.
A Review of Found by Sally Lloyd-Jones, Illustrated by Jago
The story of God as our Shepherd is foundational to a young child’s faith formation. Found by Sally Lloyd-Jones shares this message in lovely and careful ways.
Gift Books for Children A Review of Big Theology for Little Heart’s Theological Primer Series
Gift Books for Children: Big Theology for Little Hearts
A Review of The Ology
Theology for Children. What a concept. Beautifully illustrated and full of deep truths, this book is an excellent resource for families. Some families use it as a devotional guide. I’d prefer to use it as a supplement to Bible stories, but in any case this is worth a place in your children’s library.
A Review of Psalms for Young Children
Teach your child to share their feelings with God as they read summaries in Psalms for Young Children by Marie-Helene Delval, illustrated by Arno. A five-star spiritual growth book for children.
A Review of Love Made
Unlike other Creation stories, Love Made first explores the question: “What did God do before He created?”
A great resource for all of us, especially those theologically inquisitive children.
How the Church Tells Time-A video on the Liturgical Calendar
As we enter the season of Lent, it is helpful to understand “How the Church Tells Time,” or the Liturgical Calendar.
What is Lent? Why is it six-weeks long? Why do we drape the cross and the altar in purple?
This 10-minute introduction to the Liturgical Calendar provides a clear and simple way for young learners to grasp the concept of Lent as well as to consider the other major events in the church year. Teachers may choose to combine this with an activity in which children create their own liturgical calendars. It is a free resource for anyone to use.
Passover Song
The Passover Song by Iamson profoundly links the Crucifixion with the Passover and is easily sung by children. It is from his album Iamson.
Rain for Roots Albums
I am so impressed with these songs. They are thoughtful, contemplative, and easy to sing along.
A Review of Don’t Forget to Remember
Homebound and faithpassing? This is a great song by Ellie Holcomb with an accompanying book that will remind your family that God’s love is steadfast all day long. It is particularly appropriate in these coronavirus homebound days. The tune is easy to sing. The verses are rich and poetic.
